Dolorosa Sinaga

b. 1952, Sibolga, Batak province, Indonesia
Lives and works in Jakarta, Indonesia

Dolorosa Sinaga graduated from Jakarta Arts Institute in 1977 and then continued her studies in art, sculpture and bronze casting at Central Saint Martin’s – University of the Arts London, UK, San Francisco Art Institute, USA, and at The University of Maryland, USA.

One of her main intentions is to describe female experiences and the condition of women. Her subjects are faith, hope, illusion, crisis, solidarity, multicultural tensions and the fight against violence towards women.

She has received numerous awards for her work in Indonesia, and in 2000 she became a member of the rectorate at Jakarta Institute of Arts.
