Fandi Angga Saputra

b. 1996, Lampung, Indonesia
Lives and works in Yogyakarta, Indonesia

Fandi Angga Saputra graduated from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta in 2020, where he studied Fine Arts. He started drawing as a hobby and after submitting his works to numerous competitions and trying several styles of drawing such as caricature and calligraphy, his practice now focuses on painting. Fandi has exhibited in Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and The Philippines. His surrealist paintings are deeply inspired by his childhood memories in a village where he liked to play outside and enjoy nature. Nowadays, these kinds of activities such as exploring the environment, walking on grass under shady trees, and looking for various plants and animals are harder to do. As time has gone by, industrial development has increased, resulting in less green spaces and the destruction of nature, resulting in such memories ultimately fading.

Working in acrylic on canvas with a fresh colour palette, Fandi is fascinated by the beauty of the natural world. He likes to observe his surroundings–the people, the plants and the animals–then transforms them into various unique objects or figures to create harmony in his paintings. Fandi hopes his paintings can evoke these memories, and trigger a love of nature, as he believes that once we love it, we will want to protect it too.
