Lives and works in Indonesia
Anton Subiyanto’s paintings reflect the act of assimilating into society. He attributes general sadness people feel nowadays to stress stemming from the constant rat race and endless consumption. Subiyanto advocates for a more meditative pace of life and living with others, as his Javanese ancestors have. Focusing on the Javanese Hindu philosophical ideal tepo seliro, a state of empathy and mutual respect, Subiyanto encourages us to create meaningful connections with the people we interact with, and to prioritise social harmony and happiness.
Anton Subiyanto is a graduate of the Indonesian Art Institute Yogyakarta majoring in Graphic Art. Anton was the winner of the United Overseas Bank (UOB) and Southeast Asia Painting of the Year Award in 2014.
