Made Bayak is a Balinese artist, painter, musician, educator and environmental activist. Using various mediums, Made is interested in creating work that is critical for social change. He studied Fine Art at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) in Denpasar from 1999 to 2006.

Made is dedicated to his community as a member of the ‘Sanggar Anak Tangguh (Building Strong Children)’ organization in Banjar Wangbung, Sukawati, where he lives with his family. Established by local parents in response to the inadequacies of the Balinese public education system, ‘Sanggar Anak Tangguh’ offers weekly workshops concentrating on child development. Since 2010, each Sunday morning Made facilitates art classes to nurture and enhance the children’s innate creative abilities.

Through his ongoing project ‘Plasticology’ – a concept that fuses the words “plastic” and “ecology” – he explores Bali’s ecological, social, cultural and political issues. ‘Plasticology’ develops across different media and is associated to an educational campaign against plastic trash.

Made exhibits his works regularly in Bali and has previously exhibited work in Germany and Poland. He was nominated as a finalist in the prestigious 2013 Sovereign Art Prize.
